When your garage door opener light is always on and never turns off, it is usually due to a setting, a wall control issue, or a logic board problem rather than the bulb itself. The most common cause is that the light button on the wall control panel has been pressed to turn on the continuous light feature. On most LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Craftsman wall controls, there is a light button that when pressed turns the opener light on and keeps it on until you press the button again. Check that button and press it to toggle the light off. Second, many modern wall panels have a motion sensing feature that turns the light on whenever motion is detected in the garage. If you have a heater, fan, pet, or even a swaying cobweb in front of the sensor, it will keep triggering the light and it will appear to be always on. You can disable motion detection in the wall panel menu. Third, a stuck wall control or shorted bell wire can keep the light circuit energized. Disconnect the wall control wires at the motor head to test. If the light still stays on after disconnecting, the logic board's light relay has likely welded shut due to a power surge or from using a bulb with wattage higher than recommended. In that case the board or light socket assembly needs replacement.
