Yes, LED bulbs can affect garage door openers, and this is a well-documented cause of reduced remote range and intermittent operation. The issue is not the LED light itself but electromagnetic interference caused by the driver circuit inside many low-quality or non-garage-door-rated LED bulbs. Most LED bulbs have a small power supply that converts AC to DC, and cheaply designed drivers emit radio frequency interference in the 300 to 400 megahertz range, which is exactly the same frequency band used by most garage door opener remotes. When the opener's light comes on, the LED bulb's interference can blind the opener's receiver, so your remote only works from very close range or not at all. Once the opener light turns off after a few minutes, the remote range returns to normal. This problem is most common with high-brightness corn cob style LEDs, off-brand LEDs, and LED bulbs not labeled for garage door use. To fix it, replace the bulbs with LEDs specifically labeled garage door opener compatible or interference-free, such as those from Genie or Chamberlain, or use rough service incandescent bulbs if your opener allows. Ferrite beads or changing to a different brand can also help.
