When the lights on your Genie garage door opener are not turning on, the troubleshooting process is similar to other brands but with some Genie-specific details. First, check the bulbs. Genie openers typically use two A19 medium base bulbs under lens covers, and they are sensitive to vibration, so both could be burned out. Replace them with Genie LED bulbs that are garage door compatible or rough service incandescent bulbs, ensuring they are screwed in firmly and the lens covers are properly seated, as some Genie models have a safety tab that disables the light if the lens is not locked. Second, check power. If the opener still operates the door, it has power, but the light circuit may have tripped. Unplug the opener from the ceiling outlet for 30 seconds and plug it back in to reset the board. Third, check the wall console. Genie wall consoles have a light button, and if the wire is loose or the console is faulty, the light will not respond. Also, Genie Intellicode openers have a light delay setting that can be accidentally set to zero. Press and hold the light button on the wall control for a few seconds to reset. If the lights still do not work after bulb replacement and power reset, the light socket assembly, wiring harness, or the main circuit board's light relay may have failed, which is common after power surges.
