A LiftMaster garage door opener typically uses a standard medium base A19 bulb, but LiftMaster strongly recommends using a specific type to avoid problems. For older LiftMaster models that came with incandescent bulbs, the recommended bulb is a rough service or garage door opener rated incandescent bulb, 60 watts maximum per socket, with reinforced filament to withstand vibration. For newer LiftMaster models, especially those with myQ and Security+ 2.0, LiftMaster recommends its own A19 LED bulb that is specifically labeled garage door opener compatible. This bulb is designed with shielding to prevent radio frequency interference that can reduce remote control range, which is a common problem with cheap LEDs. It is also vibration resistant, shatter resistant, and rated for cold temperatures down to minus 30 degrees, which is important in unheated garages. The bulb has an E26 medium base and provides about 800 lumens of 3000K warm white or 4000K bright white light. You can physically use a regular household LED or CFL, but if you notice your remote range drops from 50 feet to 5 feet when the light is on, the bulb is causing interference and should be replaced with a garage door compatible LED. Never exceed the wattage rating printed on the light lens cover.
