Compatible LED bulbs for garage door openers are those specifically designed and tested to not emit radio frequency interference that blocks your remote control signal, and to withstand vibration and temperature extremes in a garage. Standard cheap LED bulbs often have poorly shielded driver circuits that emit interference in the 300 to 400 megahertz range, which is the same frequency your garage remote uses, causing reduced range or failure. To avoid this, look for bulbs labeled garage door opener compatible, garage door LED, or interference-free. Good choices include Genie LEDB1R and LEDB2R bulbs, Chamberlain CIGBU and the Chamberlain branded LED bulbs, and Feit Electric and Philips bulbs that are specifically marked garage door compatible. These bulbs are FCC compliant, have shielded drivers, and are also rough service rated with shatter-resistant plastic covers and reinforced electronics to handle vibration and cold. They typically use a standard E26 medium base and are equivalent to 60 to 100 watts incandescent but use only 8 to 10 watts. Avoid high-power corn cob style LEDs, candelabra style LEDs with external drivers, and no-name bargain LEDs. If your opener manual lists a maximum wattage, stay under it. Some openers still work best with rough service incandescent appliance bulbs if LED interference persists.
