To change the light bulb on your LiftMaster garage door opener, follow these steps for safety and to protect the opener electronics. First, for safety, disconnect power. Unplug the opener from the ceiling outlet or turn off the garage circuit breaker. Even though the socket is low voltage when off, working with power off prevents short circuits and protects the logic board. Next, remove the light lens cover. On most LiftMaster models, the cover is held by a screw or by squeeze clips on the sides. Remove the screw or squeeze the sides and pull the cover down. Allow the old bulb to cool if it was on, as incandescent bulbs get extremely hot. Unscrew the old bulb counterclockwise. Inspect the socket for corrosion, blackening, or a flattened contact tab at the bottom. If the tab is flat, gently lift it slightly with a small flat screwdriver with power still disconnected. Screw in the new bulb clockwise until snug but do not overtighten. LiftMaster recommends using a rough service incandescent bulb or its own garage door opener compatible LED bulb rated for vibration and cold, with a maximum of 60 watts incandescent per socket or 100 watts total. Using a garage door rated LED prevents remote interference. Replace the lens cover securely, reconnect power, and test the light by operating the door or pressing the light button on the wall control.
