How do I turn off the garage door opener light?

Turning off the garage door opener light depends on whether you want to turn it off temporarily or disable the automatic function, and what type of wall control you have. For most LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Craftsman, and Genie openers, the light is controlled by the wall control panel inside the garage. Look for a button labeled Light or with a light bulb icon. Pressing this button toggles the opener light on and off manually. If your light is stuck on continuously, pressing this button once should turn it off and return it to automatic mode where it only stays on for 4 minutes after operation. If your wall control has a motion sensor, the light will keep coming on when it senses movement. You can turn off the motion detection feature by going into the menu on the smart wall control, usually by holding the light button and lock button together or via the myQ app. If you want to completely disable the light, you can unplug the opener, but that also disables the door. A better way is to unscrew the bulb, but that disables a safety feature.
