Exterior-grade plywood generally lasts significantly longer than oriented strand board when both materials are subjected to moisture, humidity, or weathering over extended periods. Plywood is constructed from solid wood veneer sheets that shed water effectively and dry out rapidly when exposed to air, preserving the internal structural core. In contrast, OSB consists of compressed wood flakes that can absorb moisture deeply along cut edges, leading to irreversible swelling, delamination, and fungal decay if water barriers fail. Consequently, in high-moisture or humid environments, plywood outperforms OSB in overall lifespan and durability.
