Oriented Strand Board is decidedly not waterproof. While OSB is manufactured using waterproof or water-resistant synthetic resins and wax emulsions to bond the individual wood strands together under high heat and pressure, the panel itself is only water-resistant rather than completely impervious to moisture. If OSB is subjected to standing water, high humidity, or continuous rain without proper protective barriers, moisture will eventually penetrate the porous edges and surface layers. This continuous absorption causes the wood strands to swell permanently, resulting in dimensional distortion, structural weakening, and eventual delamination that ruins the integrity of the material over time.
