Termites can and will consume Oriented Strand Board, because the panel is composed primarily of real wood strands bonded together with synthetic resins and adhesives. While some OSB manufacturers incorporate zinc borate or other chemical treatments during the production process to deter fungal decay and insect infestation, these treatments do not render the board entirely termite-proof. If exposed to chronic moisture and direct contact with soil or infested framing lumber, unprotected or treated OSB panels remain vulnerable to severe structural damage caused by foraging subterranean or drywood termites over time.
