Security is defined as the state of being free from danger, threat, harm, or loss, and the measures taken to ensure safety, protection, and stability. In general terms, security means protection of people, property, information, and interests from threats, both intentional like crime, terrorism, cyber attacks, and unintentional like accidents, natural disasters, or system failures. The Oxford dictionary defines security as the state of being free from danger or threat. In different fields, definitions vary slightly, in physical security it is protection of facilities and people from unauthorized access and harm, in information security it is preservation of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data, in national security it is defense of state sovereignty and citizens from external and internal threats, in financial security it is assurance of stable resources to meet needs. Security involves risk assessment, prevention, detection, and response measures such as locks, guards, encryption, policies, and insurance. Ultimately security is both an objective condition of being protected and a subjective feeling of safety and confidence that allows individuals and organizations to function without constant fear of harm.
