John 12:47 says, If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. This verse is part of Jesus teaching near end of his public ministry in Gospel of John, speaking about his mission and response to unbelief. Context is that Jesus had performed miracles but many still did not believe, and he explains that his first coming is not for immediate judgment but for salvation and offering light. The verse emphasizes mercy and purpose of Christ, to offer opportunity for salvation before final judgment, and shows that judgment is based on response to his word, which itself will judge on last day as next verse says. Different translations phrase it slightly differently, NIV says As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge them. For I did not come to judge the world but to save the world, ESV says similar. Theological meaning is that Jesus role as Savior precedes his role as Judge, offering grace now, and listeners are accountable to his word.
