The three main areas of security are commonly described as physical security, cybersecurity or information security, and personnel or human security, forming a triad that covers assets, data, and people. Another widely used framework is the CIA triad of Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability which are three main goals of information security, confidentiality ensures data is only accessible to authorized people, integrity ensures data is accurate and not tampered, and availability ensures systems are accessible when needed. In national security, three main areas are defense, intelligence, and homeland security. In corporate security, three main areas are physical security protecting buildings and equipment, operational security protecting processes and business continuity, and information security protecting data and intellectual property. Some models list administrative security including policies and training, technical security including firewalls and encryption, and physical security including locks and cameras. For personal security, three main areas are financial security having stable resources, emotional security feeling safe in relationships, and physical security being safe from harm. Understanding three main areas helps organizations allocate resources across all critical domains rather than focusing only on one.
