Two types of security can be categorized in many ways, but fundamental types include physical security and cybersecurity. Physical security protects tangible assets, people, buildings, equipment from physical threats like theft, vandalism, fire, or intrusion through locks, guards, cameras, alarms, and access controls. Cybersecurity protects digital assets, networks, computers, and data from cyber threats like hacking, malware, and data breaches through firewalls, encryption, and antivirus. Other common pairs include information security protecting confidentiality, integrity, availability of data, and operational security protecting day to day business processes. In personal finance, you have financial security meaning stable income and savings, and job security meaning stable employment. In national security, you have internal security and external security. In psychology, emotional security and physical security. The most commonly discussed pair in modern context is physical and information security, both essential, one prevents someone stealing your laptop, the other prevents someone hacking it. Both work together in layered defense approach, as physical breach can lead to digital breach and vice versa, so comprehensive security must address both physical and digital domains.
