What does a hidden camera sound like is generally nothing, because modern hidden cameras are designed to be silent and make no audible sound during operation. Unlike old film cameras with mechanical shutters and motors, modern hidden cameras use electronic sensors with no moving parts that record silently, so you will not hear a click or whir. Some hidden cameras have tiny motors for pan tilt zoom that may produce faint buzzing when moving, but most are fixed. Some cheap spy cameras may have very faint high pitched electronic hum from circuitry or from infrared LEDs switching on at night, but you would need to be within inches in quiet room to possibly hear it. What you might hear is not camera itself but associated devices, such as DVR hard drive clicking, or small fan cooling recorder, or beep from recorder. If you suspect hidden camera, do not rely on sound, instead look for visual clues like small lens reflection, use phone flashlight to spot lens glint, check for unusual objects like smoke detectors with extra hole, use RF detector to find wireless signals, or use phone camera to see IR LEDs glowing in dark. Most hidden cameras are completely silent, so lack of sound does not mean no camera present.
