Can a camera see through clothes?

Can a camera see through clothes depends on type of camera, normal visible light CCTV and phone cameras cannot see through clothes because fabric is opaque to visible light, so you are safe from regular cameras. However, some specialized imaging technologies can see through clothes to varying degrees. Infrared or thermal cameras do not see through clothes but can show heat patterns that outline body shape under tight clothing. Airport security backscatter X-ray and millimeter wave scanners used at airports can see through clothing to detect hidden objects, but they are not used as regular CCTV and images are not detailed photographic. Some cheap modified cameras with IR night vision and IR filter removed can make thin light colored fabrics slightly more translucent under strong IR illumination, but not transparent. Claims about apps that see through clothes are scams. Terahertz imaging can see through clothes but is expensive research equipment, not consumer CCTV. So regular CCTV cannot see through clothes, but privacy concerns remain with changing rooms and bathrooms where cameras should never be installed. If you are worried about voyeur cameras, use phone to check for hidden lenses and IR lights in private areas.
