The largest race in America by population count is White. According to the United States Census Bureau data from 2020 and recent estimates, people who identify as White alone or in combination with another race make up about 71 percent of the total population. Those who identify as White alone make up around 61 percent, and Non-Hispanic White alone, which is often used as a distinct category, makes up about 58 percent of the population. This makes White the clear numerical majority. The second largest group is Black or African American at about 12 to 13 percent, followed by Asian at around 6 percent, and people identifying as Two or More Races at about 10 percent. Hispanic or Latino is not classified as a race by the census but as an ethnicity, so Hispanics can be of any race, and they make up about 19 percent of the population as an ethnic group. The demographics are shifting over time, with the White alone share decreasing and the multiracial and Hispanic shares increasing, but as of the latest data, White remains the largest racial category in the United States by a significant margin.
