If you are white, your race on most forms in the United States is listed as White or Caucasian. The US Census Bureau defines White as a person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. This includes people from England, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Russia, France, as well as people from Lebanon, Egypt, and other parts of that region. On many applications for school, work, or medical forms, you will see the category White, sometimes with options like Non-Hispanic White if they separate ethnicity. It is important to understand that race and ethnicity are treated separately in the US. You can be White and also Hispanic, for example White Hispanic if your family is from Spain or a White family in Mexico. You can be White and not Hispanic. The term Caucasian is an older anthropological term that is still widely used as a synonym for White, though technically Caucasian originally referred to people from the Caucasus region. If you are filling out a form and you have light skin and European ancestry, you would generally check White.
