The question of whether anyone is 100 percent Native American depends on whether you mean genetically, culturally, or legally. Genetically, due to thousands of years of migration, intermarriage, and more recent colonization, it is extremely rare to find someone whose DNA shows only Indigenous ancestry from the Americas with zero trace of any other continental ancestry, because genetic testing companies compare to reference populations and even small amounts of ancient shared ancestry or testing noise show up. However, from a cultural and tribal perspective, many people are considered 100 percent Native American because they are full-blooded members of a tribe where both parents and all grandparents are enrolled tribal members, and they live fully within that culture. Some communities in remote areas of the Amazon, the Andes, or northern Canada have had very little admixture. Legally, blood quantum laws used by many tribes in the US define a person as full-blooded or 4/4 if all ancestors are enrolled. So while a DNA test might show 99 percent or 99.9 percent Indigenous American due to technical limitations, many individuals and communities identify as and are recognized as 100 percent Native American in a social and political sense, and that identity is more important than a commercial DNA percentage.
