Americans have a number of cultural, legal, and everyday things that British people do not have, starting with legal and political structures. The US has a written Constitution with a Bill of Rights that guarantees freedom of speech in a very broad form and a constitutional right to bear arms under the Second Amendment, which does not exist in the UK. Americans have large-scale commercial systems like free refills in restaurants, ice in all drinks, air conditioning everywhere, and generally much larger houses, cars, and portion sizes. The US has distinctly American sports infrastructure like the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NCAA college sports that are not part of British life. Americans have a credit score system that impacts almost every aspect of life more intensely than in Britain. On the practical side, Americans have zip codes, Social Security Numbers used as national ID, tipping culture where 18 to 20 percent is expected, sales tax added at checkout, and 110-volt electricity. Culturally, Americans have traditions like Thanksgiving, Fourth of July Independence Day, high school proms and homecoming, and widespread use of garbage disposals, clothes dryers, and central heating and cooling that are less common in Britain.
