Latex is generally not toxic for skin for most people without allergy, it is not poisonous in sense of chemical toxicity, but it can cause skin reactions. Natural rubber latex is safe for skin contact for non-allergic individuals, though prolonged contact with sweating and friction can cause irritant contact dermatitis, which is redness, itching, and dryness from moisture and friction, not true allergy or toxicity. For people with latex allergy, latex is not toxic but allergenic, triggering immune reaction causing hives, itching, swelling, and potentially anaphylaxis, which is dangerous but not toxicity in chemical sense. Synthetic latex in paints is generally safe once dry. Some latex products contain chemical accelerators used in manufacturing that can cause allergic contact dermatitis, which is different from latex protein allergy. So latex is not toxic for skin in general, it does not poison skin, but it can be allergenic and irritating for sensitive individuals. If you have latex allergy, you should avoid latex products and use alternatives like nitrile, vinyl, or silicone. For most people, latex gloves and mattresses are safe for skin, though some prefer latex free for comfort.
