Some bras can contain latex, but most modern bras do not contain natural rubber latex, they contain spandex, elastane, or Lycra for stretch instead. However, older bras or cheaper bras may have elastic bands, straps, or underwire casing that contain natural rubber latex elastic, especially elastic waistbands and strap elastic. If you have latex allergy, you should check label and contact manufacturer, as even small amount of latex in elastic can cause skin irritation, itching, redness, and hives where bra touches skin. Many bra manufacturers now label latex free and use synthetic elastic like spandex or elastane which is safe for latex allergy. Bras that are labeled 100 percent cotton may still have elastic with latex in straps or band, so look for bras specifically labeled latex free, or made from organic cotton with spandex. Sports bras and bralettes with wide elastic bands are more likely to have synthetic elastic, not latex. So most modern bras from major brands are latex free, but some may still contain latex in elastic, so if you have latex allergy, choose bras labeled latex free, made from cotton, bamboo, or microfiber with spandex, and avoid those with natural rubber elastic.
