Yes, many people still use LaTeX typesetting software, especially in academia, science, mathematics, engineering, and computer science, where it is standard for writing research papers, theses, dissertations, and books with complex math. LaTeX is widely used by professors, graduate students, researchers, and publishers for its excellent handling of mathematical formulas, automatic referencing, bibliography, and high quality typography. Major scientific journals and conferences in physics, math, and computer science require or accept LaTeX submissions. TeX Live and Overleaf online LaTeX editor have millions of users, Overleaf alone reports over 10 million users as of 2024. So LaTeX is very much still used and actively maintained, with regular updates to LaTeX2e kernel and packages. For natural latex material, yes, many still use latex mattresses, gloves, and balloons, though nitrile gloves are replacing latex in healthcare. So both LaTeX software and natural latex material are still widely used, LaTeX software remains dominant in academic writing and is not obsolete, with active community and development.
