Yes, you can use white lithium grease to lubricate your garage door, and it is actually one of the best and most recommended lubricants for this application, provided you use the spray version and apply it correctly. White lithium grease is a thick, long-lasting grease that clings well to metal surfaces under high pressure and does not easily fling off or evaporate. It is excellent for metal garage door rollers with exposed ball bearings, for the torsion spring coils that rub against each other under extreme tension, for hinges, and for the bearing plates and opener chain or screw drive. It performs well in both hot and cold weather and provides corrosion protection. The key is to use white lithium grease in a spray can with a straw applicator, not the heavy paste from a tub, because the spray penetrates better and you can apply a controlled amount. Apply a short burst to each bearing and hinge, work the door up and down, and wipe off excess to prevent dripping onto your car or floor. One caveat is that white lithium grease can attract a bit more dust than dry silicone spray, so in very dusty environments some people prefer silicone for rollers and lithium only for springs. Avoid getting it on the tracks heavily, cables, or sensor lenses.
