The proper installation method requires nailing the L-shaped metal drip edge directly to the roof deck along all eaves and rakes. Along the horizontal eaves, the drip edge goes over the underlayment so water drops into the gutters. Along the slanted gable rakes, it goes under the underlayment to block wind-driven rain. Fasten with galvanized roofing nails every foot, ensuring each new section overlaps the previous one by at least two inches in the direction of water flow to guarantee leak-free performance.
