The architectural fascia board must always be installed and fully secured before the roof drip edge is put in place. The fascia is a structural and trim board mounted vertically to the outer ends of the roof rafter tails, forming the solid perimeter base of the roofline. Once the fascia and gutters are securely installed, the L-shaped metal drip edge flashing is nailed directly on top of the roof deck, with its bottom edge extending down to overhang the fascia board and empty directly into the gutters.
