The metal drip edge along a roofline should always be installed so that its bottom edge hangs down directly into the inside of the gutter, positioning it in front of the back wall of the gutter trough. This precise placement ensures that any rainwater shedding off the roof deck flows smoothly over the drip edge and drops straight into the gutter channel without running down behind the gutter, leaking onto the fascia board, or rotting the underlying wooden structure.
