A properly installed roof drip edge looks like a clean, rigid, L-shaped or T-shaped metal flashing running continuously along the entire perimeter of the roofline. It features a flat nailing flange fastened securely to the roof deck, a vertical face covering the edge of the wood decking, and a slight outward-slanted lower lip or kick at the bottom. Along the eaves, the bottom edge should hang down directly into the inside of the gutter, ensuring smooth water runoff without curling backward or leaking.
