Traditional mastiha is enjoyed in several delightful ways across Greece, depending on the occasion and whether you are consuming the liqueur or the traditional sweet accompaniment. As a liqueur, such as Skinos, it is most commonly served ice-cold as a refreshing digestif after dinner, either neat in a chilled shot glass or poured over crushed ice with a twist of lemon or lime. In traditional Greek cafés and households, a spoon sweet made from mastic, known as "ypovrychio" (meaning submarine), is served submerged inside a tall glass of ice-cold water, allowing guests to lick the sweet, aromatic resin off the spoon while sipping the cool water.
