Biogas can be converted into electrical power efficiently through specialized internal combustion gas generators, microturbines, or fuel cells designed to burn methane-rich fuel. Many commercial and industrial anaerobic digestion facilities capture the produced biogas, clean it to remove corrosive moisture and trace impurities, and run it through combined heat and power (CHP) systems, generating both electricity for on-site use or grid export and usable thermal energy for heating requirements.
