Mice hide in bedrooms in dark, quiet, warm, and undisturbed places close to nesting material and where they feel safe from humans. Common hiding spots include behind and under dressers, wardrobes, and nightstands, inside dresser drawers especially if clothes are stored and rarely disturbed, under the bed and inside box springs where they can shred fabric for nests, behind headboards, inside closets among shoe boxes and clothes piles, behind curtains, inside storage boxes, and in gaps around heating vents and radiators. They also hide inside walls and will travel through holes where pipes or electrical wires enter the bedroom, so you may hear scratching at night. Mice prefer to build nests from soft materials like shredded paper, cotton, insulation, and fabric, so any clutter provides excellent cover. They tend to travel along edges of walls rather than across open floor, so look for droppings along baseboards and behind furniture. To find them, inspect with a flashlight along walls, check for small holes the size of a dime, look for gnaw marks, and check for a musty urine smell. Keeping the bedroom uncluttered, storing clothes in sealed plastic bins, sealing cracks, and not eating in the bedroom reduces hiding opportunities.
