Yes, mice can hear human voices, but they hear them differently than we do because their hearing range is shifted to much higher frequencies. Humans typically hear sounds from about 20 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz, with speech around 250 to 4,000 Hertz, while mice can hear from about 1,000 Hertz up to 90,000 to 100,000 Hertz, meaning they hear well into the ultrasonic range that humans cannot detect. This means mice can hear the lower and middle parts of human speech, especially louder voices, but they are far more sensitive to high-pitched sounds. They often perceive human voices as low rumbles and may be startled by loud talking, shouting, or sudden noises. They also communicate with each other using ultrasonic vocalizations above human hearing, especially during mating and when pups call their mothers. Because their hearing is so sensitive, constant loud human activity may cause them to avoid open areas and stay hidden in walls, but talking alone will not drive them away permanently if food and shelter are present. Some ultrasonic repellent devices try to exploit this high-frequency hearing, but their effectiveness is limited because mice quickly habituate. So yes, they can hear you talking, but they hear a limited portion of it.
