If your AC coils freeze, the immediate step is to turn off the cooling mode entirely at the thermostat while leaving the indoor fan running to circulate room-temperature air across the coils and accelerate melting. Inspect and replace a dirty air filter, clear blocked vents, and ensure condensate drain lines are clear. Once the ice has melted completely and the system is dry, you can turn the cooling back on.
