Can I run my AC with frozen coils is not recommended and you should turn AC off immediately if coils are frozen because running with frozen evaporator or condenser coils can cause serious damage and reduce efficiency. When coils freeze, ice blocks airflow and prevents heat exchange, causing liquid refrigerant to potentially reach compressor leading to liquid slugging that can damage compressor valves and motor. Running with frozen coils also causes compressor to overheat, increases energy consumption, can cause water damage when ice melts and overflows drain pan, and does not cool house. Instead you should turn off cooling and run fan only mode to help defrost, check for causes such as dirty air filter blocking airflow, closed vents, dirty evaporator coil, low refrigerant charge due to leak, or blower failure. Allow ice to fully melt which may take few hours, use towels to catch water, do not chip ice with sharp object as you may damage coil. After defrost, replace filter, open vents, clean coils, and if freezing recurs call technician to check refrigerant and blower. So do not run AC with frozen coils.
