If your AC coils are frozen solid, you should leave the cooling system turned off for a minimum of 3 to 24 hours depending on the thickness of the ice buildup. It is vital that all ice melts completely and the internal components dry out before restarting the equipment. Running an AC while ice remains inside can severely damage the compressor and flood the indoor air handler unit.
