Several common insects are frequently mistaken for termites due to similar appearances or wood-damaging habits. Flying ants are the most common mix-up, distinguished by pinched waists, elbowed antennae, and uneven wing sizes. Additionally, carpenter ants, powderpost beetles, wood-boring beetles, and harmless flying moisture bugs are frequently confused with termites by homeowners during inspections.
