Wolf spiders generally will not bite you in your sleep, as they are shy, non aggressive spiders that avoid humans and bite only when threatened, trapped, or provoked, and they are active hunters that roam at night hunting insects rather than building webs, so they may wander indoors but prefer to avoid beds. Wolf spiders are large, fast, ground dwelling spiders found outdoors in grass, leaf litter, and under rocks, and they occasionally enter homes through cracks seeking prey, but they do not seek out humans to bite. Bites during sleep are rare and occur only if wolf spider is accidentally pressed against skin, such as rolling over on it in bed or putting on clothes where spider hides. Wolf spider bites cause mild local reactions like redness, swelling, and itching similar to bee sting, not medically significant for most people, though some may have allergic reactions. Unlike bed bugs that feed on blood at night, wolf spiders do not feed on humans and do not infest beds. To prevent wolf spiders in bed, keep bedroom clean and clutter free, vacuum regularly including under bed and corners, seal cracks around windows and doors, remove webs, keep bed away from walls and ensure bedding does not touch floor, and keep outdoor lights off to reduce insect prey. If you find wolf spider in bedroom, humane relocation by placing container over spider and releasing outdoors is recommended, as they are beneficial predators eating pests.
