A spider's worst enemy includes natural predators, environmental conditions, and human control methods, with predators being most significant natural enemies. Natural enemies include birds that eat spiders, especially small birds that glean spiders from webs, reptiles like geckos and lizards that hunt spiders on walls at night, amphibians like frogs and toads, other spiders including larger spiders that eat smaller spiders and even same species through cannibalism, a behavior called araneophagy, insects like spider wasps that paralyze spiders and lay eggs on them, with larvae feeding on spider, and praying mantises, centipedes, and scorpions that prey on spiders. Parasitic fungi and bacteria also infect and kill spiders. Among these, spider wasps are considered one of worst enemies because they specifically hunt spiders, paralyzing them and using them as living food for larvae, and birds are major predators controlling spider populations. Environmental enemies include extreme dryness that causes desiccation, as spiders need humidity, and cold winters that kill some species. For humans, most effective enemies are habitat removal, vacuuming, and sealing cracks, as well as insecticides for infestations. In homes, cats and geckos are effective predators. So spider's worst enemies are spider wasps, birds, other spiders, and geckos, along with environmental extremes and human control measures.
