Whether house spiders should be killed is personal choice, but generally they should not be killed because most house spiders are harmless and beneficial, providing natural pest control by eating insects like flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, and other spiders, and killing them is unnecessary and removes natural predator. House spiders like common house spider, cellar spider, and orb weavers are not aggressive and rarely bite humans, and bites cause only mild irritation. They help keep home free of pests without chemicals. Instead of killing, humane relocation is recommended, place container over spider, slide paper underneath, and release outdoors away from house, or leave them alone if in out of way corner. However, if you have venomous spiders like black widow or brown recluse that can cause medically significant bites, especially in homes with children or pets, removal is prudent for safety, though even these spiders bite only when threatened and can be relocated. If you have arachnophobia and cannot tolerate spiders, regular cleaning, vacuuming corners and under furniture, sealing cracks around windows and doors, removing webs, and reducing clutter and outdoor lights that attract insect prey can reduce spider presence without killing. Using natural repellents like peppermint oil spray may deter but not eliminate. So house spiders should generally not be killed due to beneficial role, but relocation and prevention are better than killing, unless venomous species pose risk.
