Your Whirlpool washer may not start for several common electrical, door lock, water supply, and control reasons. The most frequent cause is lid not fully closed or lid lock failure, as Whirlpool washers have a safety lid lock that must engage before starting. If lid lock light flashes, ensure lid closes firmly, nothing blocks it, and lock mechanism clicks. Second, power interruption: check if washer is plugged into a grounded 120-volt outlet, circuit breaker is not tripped, and outlet is not controlled by a switch or GFCI that tripped. Try plugging another appliance into same outlet to test. Third, water supply issues: if both hot and cold water faucets are not fully open, inlet hoses kinked, or inlet screens clogged with sediment, washer may not start fill and will display error. Fourth, control lock activated: if control lock light is on, press and hold Control Lock button for 3 seconds. Fifth, overload or unbalanced load: remove some clothes and redistribute. Sixth, drain pump clogged: if previous cycle did not drain, washer will not start new cycle, clean filter if front-load and check drain hose for kink. Seventh, motor overheated: if you ran many loads back to back, allow 30 minutes to cool. To reset, unplug for 5 minutes. If washer still will not start and displays error codes like F7E5 for shifter failure or F8E1 for no water, the lid lock, shifter, or control board may have failed and needs service.
