To manually reset your washer, whether it is Whirlpool, Maytag, LG, or other brands, you perform a hard power reset and sometimes a button sequence that clears error codes and control glitches. The universal method is power cycling: turn the washer off using Power button, unplug it from the wall outlet or turn off the circuit breaker that supplies it, and leave it unplugged for at least 5 to 10 minutes to allow the main control board capacitors to fully discharge and clear memory. While unplugged, press and hold the Start/Pause button for 5 seconds to drain residual charge. After waiting, plug it back in, it should beep and display should be blank or show PF for power failure, press any button to clear. For Whirlpool and Maytag top-load washers, after power reset, open and close lid 6 times within 12 seconds to reset motor. For Whirlpool front-load, press and hold Control Lock for 3 seconds to clear lock, then run Drain and Spin to clear water. For LG washers, press and hold Play/Pause for 3 seconds, then unplug. For Samsung, press and hold Start for 3 seconds to cancel, then unplug. For all brands, to clear child lock, press and hold Child Lock button for 3 seconds. A reset will not fix mechanical failures like failed drain pump, lid lock, or control board, but often clears temporary errors after power outage or overload.
