Self-leveling compounds should be avoided under specific conditions where the liquid formula will fail, crack, or leak uncontrollably. You should never apply self-leveler over active moisture intrusion issues, damp substrates without a vapor barrier, or floors contaminated with oil, wax, paint, or grease that prevent proper bonding. Additionally, using self-leveler outdoors or in areas exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations and direct weather elements is strongly discouraged unless the product is specifically rated for exterior durability. Furthermore, unsealed large gaps or holes in the subfloor will cause the expensive liquid mixture to leak through before it can cure.
