Leaving standard cement-based tile grout unsealed leaves the material highly vulnerable to absorbing moisture, liquid spills, grease, and dirt because cement grout is inherently porous by nature. Over time, unsealed grout lines will readily absorb standing water and dirty mop water, leading to deep, permanent stains, mold and mildew growth, and discoloration that is exceptionally difficult to clean. Furthermore, in high-moisture areas like showers, continuous water absorption can weaken the structural integrity of the grout joints, causing them to crack, crumble, and erode prematurely, ultimately compromising the waterproofing protection beneath the tile installation.
