Using a bag of dry tile grout powder that has been sitting in storage for ten years is strongly discouraged because cement-based products have a limited shelf life and degrade over time. Exposure to ambient humidity and moisture in the air causes the powdered cement to undergo premature hydration, forming hard lumps and losing its chemical binding strength. If mixed and installed, old degraded grout will fail to cure properly, resulting in weak, chalky joints that easily crumble, crack, and wash away. It is always safest to inspect older grout for lumps and purchase a fresh bag to ensure structural integrity and proper performance.
