Installing a transition strip involves measuring the exact doorway or gap width, cutting the strip to size using a hacksaw or miter saw, and securing it properly to the subfloor. If using a track system, screw the plastic or metal track down into the subfloor midway between the two flooring surfaces, then snap the decorative transition molding directly into place. For glue-down strips, clean the floor thoroughly, apply a bead of construction adhesive to the back or subfloor, press the strip firmly down, and weigh it down with heavy objects until the adhesive cures completely.
