Installing a transition strip between luxury vinyl plank flooring and tile is highly recommended to bridge the height discrepancy, seal the gap, and protect the vulnerable edges of both materials. While LVP is relatively thin, tile installed with cement backer board and thin-set mortar usually sits significantly higher, creating a noticeable step-down hazard. A specialized hard-surface reducer or an overlapping transition molding bridges this height difference cleanly, prevents chipping along the tile grout lines, and accommodates the expansion gap required between rigid tile and floating vinyl flooring.
