You should never use electrical tape as a substitute for plumber tape on plumbing connections. Electrical tape is designed to insulate wires and features an adhesive backing that breaks down rapidly when exposed to constant moisture, water pressure, and temperature fluctuations. Unlike plumber tape, which is chemically inert PTFE designed to withstand high pressure and lubricate threads, electrical tape will quickly lose its stickiness, turn into a gummy mess, and allow water to leak straight through. Furthermore, it provides no structural thread-sealing properties, making it completely ineffective for plumbing installations and repairs.
