The 2026 Olympics, which are the Winter Olympics, will be hosted by Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy, officially branded as Milano Cortina 2026. The Games are scheduled to take place from February 6 to 22, 2026, with the Paralympic Winter Games following from March 6 to 15. This will be the third time Italy hosts the Winter Olympics after Cortina d'Ampezzo hosted in 1956 and Turin hosted in 2006, and the fourth time Italy hosts any Olympics including Rome's Summer Games in 1960. The bid won over Stockholm-Are in Sweden in the IOC vote in 2019. Milano Cortina 2026 will be a geographically spread-out Games across northern Italy to utilize existing venues and reduce new construction costs. Ice sports like hockey, figure skating, and short track will be held in Milan at venues like the San Siro area and Mediolanum Forum. Alpine skiing events will be in Cortina d'Ampezzo and Bormio, snowboarding and freestyle in Livigno, ski jumping and Nordic combined in Predazzo, and sliding sports in Cortina. The organizers emphasize sustainability, with 13 of 14 venues being existing or temporary, and extensive use of trains to connect clusters. This Winter Olympics will be followed by the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
