The United States has hosted the most Olympic Games of any country, with a total of eight Olympic Games held on US soil, including both Summer and Winter editions. The US has hosted four Summer Olympics: St. Louis in 1904, Los Angeles in 1932, Los Angeles again in 1984, and Atlanta in 1996, and is scheduled to host a fifth Summer Games in Los Angeles in 2028. The US has also hosted four Winter Olympics: Lake Placid in 1932, Squaw Valley now called Palisades Tahoe in 1960, Lake Placid again in 1980, and Salt Lake City in 2002, and is scheduled to host the Winter Olympics again in Salt Lake City in 2034. No other country has hosted as many total Games. France is second with six total Olympics including Paris hosting the Summer Games in 1900, 1924, and 2024, plus Winter Games in Chamonix 1924, Grenoble 1968, and Albertville 1992. The United Kingdom has hosted three Summer Olympics in London in 1908, 1948, and 2012. Japan has hosted four Olympics total, and Canada and Italy have each hosted three. The US total reflects its large infrastructure, economic capacity, and long involvement in the Olympic movement since the first modern Games in 1896.
