Kenmore is owned by Transformco, which is parent company of Sears and Kmart, having acquired Sears assets after bankruptcy in 2019, with Kenmore brand being private label brand originally created by Sears, Roebuck and Co. in 1913. Kenmore was founded by Sears in 1913 as brand for sewing machines, then expanded to appliances like washers, dryers, and refrigerators, becoming one of most recognized appliance brands in US and Canada for over 100 years. Sears owned Kenmore for over 100 years, but after Sears Holdings filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2018 and closed most stores, Transformco, owned by Eddie Lampert, purchased Sears and Kmart assets including Kenmore brand in 2019 for 5.2 billion dollars. Transformco now owns Kenmore trademark and licenses manufacturing to other companies like Whirlpool, LG, and Frigidaire, who actually build Kenmore appliances in their factories, with Whirlpool making many Kenmore washers in Clyde, Ohio, LG making some fridges, and Frigidaire making ranges. In Canada, Sears Canada previously sold Kenmore but closed in 2018, so Kenmore no longer sold new in Canada, but brand ownership remains with Transformco US. So Kenmore is owned by Transformco, parent of Sears, not by Whirlpool or other manufacturer, though manufacturing is contracted out, with brand still existing for US market through sears.com.
